I have bough red henna too...it's going to be my first time, but it's a bit much to leave it from 1 to 8 hours...as it says on the prescriptionI think that's the only bad thing about it. I also have a question: if i leave it only one hour, is the color going to be visible? I am a brunette, with some natural lighter highlights. I don't have the time to leave that long. but is it going to show on my hair if i leave it olny an hour or 2?

I've been dyeing my hair for years with henna. It doesn't just give it a beautiful deep red color (that doesn't fade like red hair dye will), it makes my hair healthy and shiny. I get more compliments on my hair color (at least once a week) than I ever did when I was blonde or red using hair dye. The secret is to use pure 100% henna (I purchase mine on line), not a mix, blend, compound, etc. If the henna mix has been mixed with metallic salts, it has the potential to have a reaction with your previous chemical treatments (perms, dyes), which could lead to some very negative results (think green). Always do a little test on a lock of hair or some hair you've collected from your hair brush for a few days. I mix the pure henna powder with lemon juice; let it sit for 3 or more hours for the color to release; glop it on; put on a shower cap and lounge around for 3 hours or even overnight; rinse (the hardest part) and voila! GORGEOUS color! Good luck!
